In my previous report, I mentioned how
the Quarter – Finals are going to be boring due to the big teams with boring
play made it in, save it for PSG and Dortmund. PSG shouldn’t be put in my list of
“teams that deserved to be in the Quarters” due to them being almost identical
to the others, but their form as of late has been shit. They’re 1st
in their league, but their form hasn’t been all high and mighty as it was years
ago. So because of that, I give them pity to be here. Dortmund on the other
hand, have had way too many ups and downs in the last decade. Always under
Bayern’s shadow, not being able to win titles at all. In my eyes, they’re the
underdogs. Both home and in Europe. And I thought for sure both PSG and
Dortmund would be waving goodbye to the Champions League after the Quarters…
BOY HOW WRONG I FUCKING WAS!!!!
Also a HUGE thanks to Arena Sport for
actually providing people to watch highlights of any game at any time, you’re
real heroes. Still my #1 place for posting highlights of matches for my reports
BARCELONA vs. PSG (4-6)
First Leg: 2-3 for Barca
Second Leg: 1-4 for PSG
The first leg was pretty dreadful in all
honesty. A narrow 2-3 win for Barcelona made everyone believe that this game’s
second leg will be just as boring.
Mbappe (2x), Vitinha and Dembele said
otherwise.
While Raphinha did score in the 12th
minute, that was his only contribution for Barcelona, as a red card for Araujo
in the 29th saw their chances for the semis gone.
It also gets worse as Xavi, the Barca
legend, who is now their manager, received a red in the second half for inappropriate
behaviour.
PSG thrashed the Catalonian side with
ease and are now expecting their opponents in the semis, which will be revealed
in the next match report…
BORUSSIA DORTMUND vs.
ATLETICO MADRID
First Leg: 2-1 for Atletico
Second Leg: 4-2 for Dortmund
To say that this was the craziest game
of the Quarters is an understatement.
In the first leg, Dortmund pushed hard
and played well, but it just wasn’t enough. Not even for a draw. The game ended
in Atletico’s favour, with a not so easy 2-1 victory.
Their manager, Diego Simeone, during a
press conference before the second leg, said that he and his team felt
comfortable and that a win is guaranteed.
Dortmund spent no time trying to breach
Atleti’s defence. Brandt and Maatsen were the first to successfully deal
damage. Probably out of pity, they scored an own goal to give Simeone’s side a
chance to play. But sadly, even with that opportunity, Dortmund seized the
moment for them to go all out and bang 2 more goals.
Everyone was expecting Atletico to win
and advance, as they’re REALLY decent. But man, the underdogs delivered a
wonderful performance that rocked everyone’s socks off.
I
really hope they go to the finals, face and beat their Bavarian rivals. To
exact their revenge for losing the final 11 years ago.
Speaking of their Bavarian rivals…
BAYERN vs. ARSENAL
First Leg: 2-2
Second Leg: 1-0 for Bayern
Shit games. Arsenal bottled it like
usual. Bayern struggled.
That’s all I can say about these two.
MAN CITY vs. REAL
MADRID
First Leg: 3-3
Second Leg: 1-1 (Real won 3-4 on penalties)
This was a huge clash between an ancient
titan and a so called modern “titan”.
The first leg saw both teams go all out,
but a winner was not decided. For Madrid, Ruben Dias, Rodrygo and Valverde were
the heroes that scored, whilst for City, we had Silva, Foden and Gvardiol. But
in terms of play, both team were equal in almost every aspect and angle.
Second leg, same story, although City
were better by a tiny amount.
Penalties are a cruel mistress. In the
end, she ended up with the King, rather than some ordinary (and not mention
cheating and meddling) Citizen.
I was wrong about the Quarter – Finals.
I was so, so, so, so wrong. They were exciting and gave me hope that the Semis
will be just as awesome.
The following teams that will face each
other in the Semi – Finals:
-
PSG vs. Dortmund
-
Real Madrid vs. Bayern
Munich
See you in a fortnight. No really! You’ll
see me posting about the Champions League in 2 weeks’ time…
