“OH TO BE
BACK!!!”, or as the saying goes. It is the dawn of a new season, and people are
back on the big screen, or on the field, to watch their football clubs with
love, passion, and excitement. This only applies if you’re the reigning
champions of England, a newly promoted side, or giving the champions a run for
their money. For the rest, it’s just supporting the club they love (I’m definitely
not coping due to the fact Manchester United are the team of all time). This
season does look very interesting and promising, as Leeds, Burnley and
Sunderland are back in the Prem, not to mention Sunderland looking kind of
ready to not go downhill this time.
Without, further
ado, let’s dive in into the first month of the Premier League- OH WHO AM I
KIDDING???
The season just
started and there’s already an international break. UEFA, FIFA, and the rest of
the unions couldn’t have waited for at least the second week of September to do
their national matches, BUT NO! They had to select week 1 of September. I get
it it’s for the World Cup, but pick a better week to do that, please?
Anyways, off we
go with the opening game of the season…
The 2024/2025
champions of England opened the new season with a rather weird 4-2 victory over
“The Cherries”. “The Reds” were leading with a comfortable 2-0 score until the
2nd half, when they conceded 2 in just 12 minutes. But then managed
to make a comeback, with goals from Chiesa in the 86th and Salah 84th
minute because, it’s fucking Liverpool.
Profanity and
envy aside, Ekitike’s strike in the 34th minute was also a beautiful
display of how Liverpool treats their fans and players as family. The young
footballer, after scoring the goal, showed the number 20 with his hands, as a
tribute to Diogo Jota, who tragically lost his life on July 3rd this
year, alongside his brother in Spain. Not only was this a shock for the
footballing world and just in general, but a bright star who helped Liverpool
equalise United’s Premier League trophy amount, and was overall one of the best
players of Slot’s era. His number has been immortalised in the club’s history.
Even I, as a “Red Devil” supporter, can’t do anything but show my respect
towards him and his family. Rest in peace, Jota. You’ll never walk alone!
So, can someone
explain what this match was?
Manchester City
got schooled real fucking hard by a team that won the Europa League… WITH A 16th
PLACE FINISH IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE!!!
Not only that,
BUT SAID TEAM RECEIVED 4 YELLOW CARDS!!!
Man City’s usual
mechanical style of play was shut down by Thomas Frank’s Spurs, with his side
just outperforming the triangle and diamond game plan of Guardiola’s City. The “Small
Fish” just gave up and allowed Johnson and Palhinha to score 2 for Spurs and just
keep on attacking and attacking.
Same kind of
thing happened with City’s defeat at the hands of Brighton in matchweek 3,
where City lost 2-1. In the same matchweek, Spurs lost 1-0 to Bournemotuh. It
goes to show that this game was just Tottenham being Tottenham. After all, IT
IS THE HISTORY OF THE TOTTENHAM!!!
WEST HAM vs. CHELSEA
Sunderland
always are at the sort end of the stick when it comes to staying in the Premier
League. Well, they’re back, AND THEY’RE NOT FUCKING AROUND ANYMORE (hopefully).
With only a loss
to Burnley, Sunderland started off the month extremely good. 2 wins with great
results, of which their opening game was their best. They have Granit Xhaka,
who is an excellent baller all around. They play aggressively. They started off
fine.
Brentford… They
just kind of exist right now. For fuck’s sake, it’s August. Give them time,
they’ll figure something out…
STANDINGS
I mean, it’s the
first month of the new season. Not much there to say. Only comment I can leave
is that I like the redesign of the web-page of the Premier League, but shame
that no photos that capture moments of a game are present. Also the new table looks awful when you have to take a photo of it and put it here, as it is too big and shrinking it down makes it look worse. Just because of that, this season, the default table from Google will be used.
Until next time
