UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2023 - 2024 FINAL REPORT

Before I begin with my report, 2 things I would like to mention:

- Atalanta winning the Europa League Final against Leverkusen with great ease.

- United just completely shitting on Man City, Chelsea and Newcastle by winning the FA Cup final. They humiliated Pep, cock-blocked Chelsea from playing in the Europa League and Newcastle in the Conference.

Wild shit, innit?

With that out of the way…

After a long and exhausting season, the wait for the biggest match of the season was at all high. And the final did not disappoint…

Real Madrid and Dortmund faced many challenges this season. Dortmund survived the group of death and went on an impressive run to reach the final, whilst Real were dominating each game they played as they advanced through the tournament, although some might say their win against Bayern in the semis was undeserved.

Regardless of what people say, the final was fantastic! And here’s the breakdown.

All images in this report belong to the UEFA Champions League

First Half: Dortmund were the better dominating team in the first half of the game. As early as the 10th minute, they had a chance to make it 1-0, but Courtois’ intervention and Dortmund’s lack of quick wits denied them that opportunity. Just 10 minutes or so after that chance, Dortmund found themselves again to score, with Niclas Fuellkrug having that honour. However, he was unlucky and hit the post. Fuellkrug had another chance at redemption, but the final attempt at scoring was shut down by Courtois in the 28th minute. After that, Real started to fight back a bit more, but still couldn’t do much, apart from a chance early on.

Second Half: Don Carlo raised his eyebrow and Real became a different team altogether in the second half. From the 50th minute, all the way to the final whistle, Real Madrid created chances left and right, with some fantastic play by Vinicius and Bellingham. Borrusia’s game plan remained the same as it was in the first half, which didn’t do them any favours. They would gain possession, but with the handicap of not being able to produce any attacks from it. Meanwhile, Real Madrid would just get the ball, create openings, shoot (too many chances to mention), and not give up. Their efforts paid off in the 74th minute, after Daniel Carvajal scored a header from a corner. And then later in the 83rd, with a great goal from Vinicius Junior. That last one basically cemented the game for everyone. Not even Fuellkrug’s goal (God damn it, man) in the 88th minute, which was ruled off as offside, couldn’t help Borrusia make a comeback.

And after 5 minutes of stoppage time, the final whistle was blown. Europe had its champion.

FOR THE 15th TIME IN EUROPE’S MOST ELITE COMPETITION…

WINNER: REAL MADRID

Starting from next season, the Champions League will be played in a different format. It will be like a mini-league of sorts, 24 teams with the top 8 teams advancing in the Round of 16, whilst those from 9th to 24th will play in the play-offs to determine the last 3 teams to join the others in the upcoming rounds.

This shit kinda feels like the Super League if I’m being honest.

And that’s it basically! The season ended on a note. Not a high nor a low, but just a note. As for the football reporting, I’m not sure if I’ll be up for reporting the Euros or the next season. Being busy a lot this season and my desire to write something else other than just football related content has drained me up quite a bit, despite my football reports being a monthly thing. Maybe during the summer break OR during the Euros, I’ll regain my energy back and write about football. But for now, I just want to say thank you for reading my monthly reports, and expect other stuff from me during the summer. Games, poems, stories, and maybe a historical essay of sorts. Who knows?

Until then, take care of yourselves and see you next time
