PREMIER LEAGUE MONTHLY REPORT - OCTOBER

The spooky scary month of October is reaching its end. And of course that means I’m about to deliver to you a funky recap of the month through some notable games that happened throughout the period. And of course with October being yet another month of “Internationals”, there was a huge break from standard football, which made fans upset. Strangely enough, this International break wasn’t that bad. No injured players, decent games, and Scotland qualifying for the Euros. The latter being noteworthy due to the team failing to reach the group stages of a major international tournament most of the time.

But October is also a month of great loss. English football has lost an icon. Sir Bobby Charlton, member of the Busby Babes, an important part of the glorious English side that lifted the World Cup in 1966, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Known for his great skill and leadership, and also being the 2nd player with most goals scored for a team, only behind Wayne Rooney, who surpassed him with a wonderful goal against Stoke on 21 January, 2021. A great figure who also survived the horrible airplane crash of Munich in 1958. To commemorate for his great achievements for the club, a statue was erected to honour him and 2 other “Red Devils”: George Best and Denis Law.

Rest in Peace, Sir Charlton. It is a shame you went for a kick about with your mate Best during a disastrous time for the club you once played for…

TOMB RAIDER II REVIEW

Series: Tomb Raider

Release date: November 1997 (PC & Playstation)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Mac OS, iOS, Android

Genre: Action-Adventure

Mode: Single Player

1996 was a smash hit year for Core Design and Eidos Interactive, as their game, Tomb Raider, has taken the world by storm, with millions of copies sold by the following year. Lara Croft became a household name in gaming and pop culture as well, appearing in places outside of gaming. She was in various ads that ranged from drinks, car commercials, credit card ads (yep, she escaped a deadly trap using a VISA card. She was using the dreadful “pay 2 win” mechanic before it was a thing), and others that I forget about. Alongside that, her sex appeal started to explode, as she was rendered doing sexy poses, being in bikinis or being semi naked in various images, which caused the main creator of the character, Toby Gard, to leave Core Design the following year. Whilst this was going on, Eidos didn’t want the hype to die, so they told Core to make a sequel to their Tomb Raiding masterpiece. 1 year later of development and crunch, the world got the sequel that wanted and deserved, TOMB RAIDER II.
